Overview

When the limit equilibrium analysis method is not applicable to certain structures such as piled abutments and embedded wall abutments, the horizontal earth pressures on integral abutments may be evaluated using recognized soil–structure interaction methods incorporating an appropriate numerical model of the soil properties.

In this session, numerical simulation and analytical modeling method will be explained and demonstrated for pile-supported integral bridges using 2 different FEM software, one for bridge analysis and the other one for geotechnical analysis. Especially data exchange between substructures and superstructures will be simulated for integral bridge design.

This is 2nd webinar session of Soil-structure interaction analysis. In the previous session, theoretical background of soil structure interaction analysis has been explained with  application method according to PD 6694-1:2011.  You can watch the 1st session on Fundamentals of Soil Structure Interaction Analysis for Integral Bridges.

Objectives

Key Point 1: Pile-supported Integral Bridge Modeling

Where numerical modelling is carried out, it is important that the approach used has been calibrated against comparable experience, laboratory modelling and/or case history data experience. In this webinar session, numerical modeling method and important notes will be explained and simulated with FEM software.

Key Point 2: Interaction between Substructures and Superstructures

In the soil-pile-structure analytical model, substructure with ground models are simulated using geotechnical solution whereas superstructure models are simulated using structure solution. Due to the  application of 2 different solutions, data exchange from soil to the structure can cause complicated work process. In this webinar, how to practically deal with this process will be demonstrated with important notes.
