How to Add a Transverse Moving Load?

midasBridge TeamNovember 24, 2020

When a static concentrated load is applied on a deck, the deck will deflect transversely as well as longitudinally, similar to the structural behavior of a two-way slab. The load distribution becomes more complex when multiple point loads are applied to the deck, such as truck loads. When the structural model is simplified to a 2D frame model, it is important to obtain the resulting 3D forces from the 2D model.

Lane Element and Cross Beam Methods for Moving Load Distribution

midasBridge TeamNovember 11, 2020

The difference between lane element and cross beam element for vehicular load distribution is in considering the transverse rigidity of the system and the kind of model generated (line, plate, or grillage model)

Self-Anchored Suspension Bridge Design

midasBridge TeamOctober 26, 2020

The Andy Warhol Bridge is an eyebar-chain, self-anchored suspension bridge carrying Seventh Street over the Allegheny River in the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This bridge is one of the "Three Sisters" bridges constructed from 1924 to 1928 which comprise the only trio of identical, side-by-side bridges in the world and the first self-anchored bridges constructed in the United States.

Comparison of Theoretical and Software Results of Prestressed Tendon Loss

midasBridge TeamOctober 23, 2020

With the advent of the IT era in the 21st century, information that was previously unavailable in the engineering market has become possible. Engineering simulation using a computer program is one of them, and it is currently used in most engineering industries.

Dead Load Applications in Bridge Analysis Models

midasBridge TeamAugust 31, 2020

Loading on structures can be idealized as static loads and are one of the major issues for structures. It makes permanent deformations to structures during the service period. The dead loads can be applied in the structural analysis as static loads. The static loads include nodal loads, distributed loads, and pressure loads in the structural analysis software. midas Civil also provides various load types to cover various loading conditions. In this webinar, we will examine how static load types are applied and which static load types are available.

How to Define Material Properties for Your Successful Analysis

midasBridge TeamJune 22, 2020

Material properties must be applied when performing analysis. midas Civil provides 'Material Properties' function to define various materials. Some users who are a beginner or are not familiar with midas Civil might be confused while defining a material property because there are various options. These options are used for linear analysis or nonlinear analysis and those are used or not depending on the purpose of analysis.

Moving loads are one of the most important factors in the bridge design. In this course, we tried to broaden your understanding of vehicle loads to get accurate moving load results. Additionally, we discussed in detail how moving loads affect the analysis results depending on how define traffic line lanes and vehicles are defined. It will be helpful to most bridge engineers who handle moving load factors on a daily basis.

A girder bridge is one of the most common types of bridge design. Prestressing a composite girder in the negative moment region increases its stiffness by preventing cracking of concrete under service loads. In this webinar, we share the design practices of girder span bridges in Sarawak and show which functions of midas Civil can be utilized for the effective modeling of this type of structure.

In this webinar, we will introduce the midas Civil application of the transverse analysis of prestressed concrete box girder in the cable-stayed bridge.

This case study highlights

1. Modeling Concept

2. Considered Load Case with Functions in midas Civil

3. Considered Boundary Conditions with Functions in midas Civil

4. Post-processing and Other Modeling Applications

The example structure below is the Saemangeum bridge in South Korea. This project is a preliminary design. The structure is a cable-stayed bridge with concrete superstructures, pylons, and piers. The superstructure is composed of pre-stressed concrete girders. The transverse analysis was carried out in midas Civil.
