MIDAS CIM Interoperability Content (to CellBIM)Introducing MIDAS CIM Interoperability Content (to CellBIM)

0. Introduction

MIDAS CIM can export to IFC 4.3 files, which are an international standard extension, making it compatible with various other BIM-related software. IFC files are supported by many BIM tools such as Revit, Navisworks, Civil3d, etc. In particular, we would like to explain the process of integrating with "CellBIM," which specializes in powerful usability and quantity takeoff. CellBIM is an Excel Add-In software developed and sold by Nomitech, famous for its estimation and cost estimation solutions for large-scale construction projects. If you are familiar with Excel, you can easily manage and review models.

First, let's take a look at the process of exporting/importing IFC files in CellBIM as shown in the video below.

Through IFC files, you can share the geometric and attribute information of models with other programs. We will examine the possible tasks with the IFC model imported into CellBIM through the following steps.

1. Utilization Content

A. Quantity Takeoff

In CellBIM, you can import information on selected objects into Excel. Not only the name, material, attribute, and field values of objects, but also geometric information such as area, volume, and quantity can be directly linked to Excel. Therefore, without the need to capture drawings and dimensions and organize formulas, simply clicking on the cell with the result value allows you to check the information of the corresponding object, which becomes a 3D-based basis for quantity takeoff. Since CellBIM operates based on Excel, it has the advantage of freely matching the BIM model to the desired format.

B. Model Review Reports

Review by practitioners is essential in BIM modeling. However, taking pictures, finding positions, and entering them every time takes a considerable amount of time. Instead, if you use CIM and CellBIM, you can insert captures and connect them to positions while reviewing models.

Tip! ✍🏻

By the way, in MIDAS CIM V190, a new feature has been added that allows you to directly capture images. Make sure to take advantage of it.

By directly marking various defects and changes on the model and checking them, it can become an RFI review report that is easier to understand.

C. Communication Tool

It can also be used when communicating with stakeholders based on the BIM model, and important content can be freely marked up by matching the model's style with cells. Since this style can be applied differently for each sheet, it can be effectively utilized in BIM model-based meeting minutes, as shown in the video.
